چکیده
A simple model for calculation of diffraction radiation characteristics when ultrarelativistic charged particle moves close to a tilted ideally conducting strip has been developed. Resonant diffraction radiation (RDR) is considered as superposition of radiation fields for periodically positioned strips. RDR characteristics have been calculated in dependence on the number of grating elements, tilted angle, and initial particle energy. There has been noticed an analogy with both resonant transition radiation in absorbing medium and parametric X-ray radiation. Introduction In papers [1-4] characteristics of electromagnetic radiation from in parallel passing relativistic particle above diffraction grating (so-called Smith-Purcell effect (SPE)) have been considered. The interest to similar kind of radiation is associated, firstly, with possibility of SPE using for generation of intensive radiation in millimeter and submillimeter region [5] and, secondly, with ∗e-mail: [email protected]

An approach has been developed where the Smith-Purcell radiation (SPR), i.e. emission of electrons moving close to a periodic structure, is treated as the resonant diffraction radiation. Simple formulas have been designed for the SPR intensity for a grating having perfectly conducting strips spaced by a vacuum gap. The results have been compared with those obtained via other techniques. It has ...

متن کاملFirst Stage Experiment on Optical Diffraction Radiation at KEK-ATF: Theoretical Approach
Extremely low emittance and high current electron beam is one of the vital characteristics for linear colliders or X-ray FEL's. Parallel developments of non-invasive beam diagnostics are strongly required for realizing such beams. Detection of Optical Diffraction Radiation (ODR), because of its non-destructive nature, is the most promising technique for the application to the non-invasive beam ...
متن کاملCST simulations of THz Smith-Purcell radiation from a lamellar grating with vacuum gaps
Smith-Purcell radiation (SPR) from a lamellar grating with vacuum gaps was calculated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Particle In Cell (PIC) solver. The shapes of the radiation distributions were compared with those of Resonant Diffraction Radiation theory. Study of calculation domain meshing was performed. Influence of a transverse bunch size on the calculation accuracy and an SPR i...
